Are you a chocolate lover? Then you will really enjoy the chocolate scent which wafts across the patio in spring, from the delicate Akebia quinata. With bell-like deep purple flowers this is a semi-evergreen climber ( in mild winters it keeps its leaves; in cold winters it will drop its leaves)  Twining stems with five-lobed, bright green leaves will twist around upright posts of a pergola and scramble across the top creating a shady retreat from the summer sun.

If becoming overgrown cut hard back after flowering and it will quickly regenerate.

Eventual height 8-12m and spread up to 8m in 5-10years.
