Clematis armandii is a vigorous evergreen form with shiny green leaves and scented white, star-shaped flowers in April. Easy to grow in the border or a deep container, this climber can reach a height and spread of 5m.

It will thrive in moist well-drained, neutral to alkaline soil and in sun or partial shade, but avoid exposed sites as it needs protection from severe winter weather. Apply a potassium-rich fertiliser in spring and mulch with organic matter. It should be pruned as a Group 1 clematis.
