Plants that grow 3m high producing hundreds of pods up to 50cm in length - does the name Enorma really do this popular variety justice? It's early to start producing the pods so you can be picking fresh veg from July until the first frosts. And oh those pods - smooth skinned and so, so tasty. Of course, as any gardener who has ever grown Enorma already knows, you will be stacking the freezer with them, opening your own honesty box stall outside your house and generally racking out the garage and shed with shelving to hold the jars of pickled runner beans, but that's what you get with Enorma. Lots of pods and easily grown. It deservedly boasts an RHS Award of Garden Merit.

After the frosts, plant out your seedlings 25cm apart in well drained soil next to a trellis/net or cane and guide them in the direction you would like them to grow. Once they reach the top, let them run wild back down. Position in a sunny but sheltered site.

Keep well watered at all times especially in dry weather. Protect them from the frost and feed every other week once the first beans have formed. For an attractive kitchen garden, group plant Nasturtiums near beans to ward off bean beetles. Tagetes can also help with this and they can ward off aphids.

1 per cell; 6 cells per pack.
